The Neighbor has access to traps, gates and gadgets that can be used to confuse, separate and terrify the children. However, one lucky player is also assigned the role of the Neighbor. Each game consists of up to six players, each spawning as their chosen child. The role of the child is to evade the Neighbor, find keys hidden in randomised locations and to ‘co-operate, but trust anyone’, as you wield any object you can find as a weapon – from chairs to tomatoes. The player picks from six customizable characters, each with individual roles such as the Inventor, who can collect cogs to create useful items, and Scout, who has a slingshot with a limited selection of ammo.

Secret Neighbor is a fun concept which combines the suspenseful atmosphere of the original with a playstyle somewhat similar to other hide and seek games such as Witch It.

Beta for the game is open now and can be accessed through Steam for free on a temporary basis. But here’s the catch – one of them is a traitor. The newest addition to the universe is Secret Neighbor, a ‘multiplayer social horror game’ in which a group of kids attempt to infiltrate the Neighbor’s basement by sneaking around his house in search of keys. It has since spawned a prequel, Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, alongside a wide range of merchandise and even a collection of novels similar to those of the FNAF series. Despite receiving mixed and at times unfavourable reviews from critics, it quickly earned a place alongside indie darlings, Bendy and the Ink Machine and Five Nights at Freddy’s, as streamers and Youtubers everywhere amassed, taking viewers on a wild roller coaster of bizarre theories and chaotic playthroughs. Hello Neighbor, a Kickstarter funded project developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild, is a stealth horror game with survival features revolving around a creepy neighbour with a mysterious secret.

Are you brave and quick enough to unlock the secrets of his basement? This exciting beta introduces an online co-op mode, but you can’t trust anyone – not even yourself. The Neighbor is back, and this time the big chinned, mustachioed fiend has some serious tricks up his sleeve.
